Today's Athiest Memory Verse

"Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead" (Acts 17:30-31).

I remember it being a hard thing to do, repent I mean. But when I humbled myself and repented, the LORD gave me His spirit in my heart of hearts, I know He is always with me, He gives me a joy greater than anything I have ever experienced.
Please REPENT, yes REPENT, and truly live!

John 5:19-30,
19Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. 21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

24"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. 25I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. 27And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.

28"Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. 30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

Which day? Should I keep my diary clear in 2009?

Well, that's another perfectly good irony meter ruined.

Your spelling of "atheist" is, uh . . . non-standard. You might want to fix that.

Non sequitur (humor)
A non sequitur is a conversational and literary device, often used for comical purposes (as opposed to its use in formal logic). It is a comment which, due to its lack of meaning relative to the comment it follows, is absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing. Its use can be deliberate or unintentional.

Hilarious stuff, Ray, and quite appropriately nonsensical. After all - it Paul that said:

"One of Crete's own prophets has said it: 'Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons'. He has surely told the truth."
– Epistle to Titus, 1:12

You're not from Crete by any chance - are you Ray?

Sorry Ray, I think you got it mixed up with a Christian verse by mistake.

A wonderful 'memory verse' for all of us. This message has been sounding out from generation to generation for 2,000 years now. God has purposely not revealed to us when that appointed day will be, but it will be an appointment that none of us will miss.

It is worth noting that along with the universal("all men everywhere")call to repentance and announcement of the coming judgement in righteousness, He has also given promises to all who hear and believe the message, and do repent and trust Jesus, and warnings to those who disregard it.

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned." (Mark 16:15-16 NASB)

And:
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." (John 3:36 NASB)

If anyone is not yet saved, he/she needs to let the Law of God penetrate their conscience and make them aware of their guilt and need for Jesus, the Savior. The promise we have from His own lips is, "...the one that comes to Me [i.e. puts their trust in Him] I will certainly not cast out."

He preaches there.

Here we have a sermon to heathens, who worshipped false gods, and were without the true God in the world; and to them the scope of the discourse was different from what the apostle preached to the Jews. In the latter case, his business was to lead his hearers by prophecies and miracles to the knowledge of the Redeemer, and faith in him; in the former, it was to lead them, by the common works of providence, to know the Creator, and worship Him. The apostle spoke of an altar he had

seen, with the inscription, to TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. to This fact is stated by many writers. After multiplying their idols to the utmost, some at Athens thought there was another god of whom they had no knowledge. And are there not many now called Christians, who are zealous in their devotions, yet the great object of their worship is to them an unknown God? Observe what glorious things Paul here says of that God whom he served, and would have them to serve. The Lord had long borne with idolatry,

but the times of this ignorance were now ending, and by his servants he now commanded all men every where to repent of their idolatry. Each sect of the learned men would feel themselves powerfully affected by the apostle's discourse, which tended to show the emptiness or falsity of their doctrines. (Ac 17:32-34)

No Andy it is part of a sermon to heathens (unbelievers, atheist and all those with unrepentant hearts).

No, not a "Cretian," he's a "Cretin." Simple mistake, I realize.

Also, this whole "before its too late" thing is getting old quick. Don't you have any new material Ray? Or you just gonna keep qouting out of context random people and Bible verses, believing, as you do, that it does the work of making an argument?

Micah 6:8He has showed you oh man what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercyand to walk humbly with your GOD!NIV
From the book Get Uncomfortable.
(Serve the poor. Stop injustice. Change the world in JESUS name)
Do any of you understand what this Bible verse means? It is a blue print on JESUS most important commandments Mt 22:37 -39
First to act justly. In todays world we do not act justly we are self serving and self indulgence. mostly there are some who do this but very few. More of us need to do what Jesus has ask of us First to love our God with all our heart, soul and mind. Second to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Why do we feel the need to ridicule and put others down? Why not love each other and sever the poor with every thing we have we are to give to the point of sacrafice to ourselves. Do any of us do that. I doubt it. When we serve others we will forget about our diffrences and focus of others and what they need. That is when you will truly find happiness.
Second Love Mercy means to put legs with your love. Go out today and tell a stranger that you love them. Church is not about buildings it is about relationships. Just like our Hero Jesus did. Again it's about others not our selves.
Third walk humbly with your God! Pride is what I read on this page every answer is about I'm right and your wrong. Stop trying to be right. Have you ever heard Dr Phil say your a right fighter well that is wht your doing on here. You would rather be right than Happy. Being happy is walking humbly with God and serving those who need us.
slosing I know your going to blast me but thats ok because I don't read most of these answers I scan through and get a feel for who needs help and then I am trying to reach out to you and give you the help you need. I love you all.

Our national economy and political freedoms are not the only things that separate us from understanding the way tha majority of the world lives. We futhure separate ourselves an believerrs by refusing to educate ouselves on the 2000 verses in Scrpture that clearly reveal the following prespectives: GOD's Heart for the poor and oppressed, the true condition of our world, our responsibility and opportuinty to spread thegosple by serving others in need, and the promise that GOD will empower HIS children to accomplish His goal of justice and mercy for all the world through His Son, JESUS CHRIST.

If you tell them the truth and they do not have an ear to hear then brush the dirt from your feet as you leave them and tell them their blood is on their own hands.

Marco,

If you are going to post/preach/witness/whatever in an online forum, you need to learn, grammar, spelling and basic sentence construction. Your "points" are getting lost.

Maybe you should have taken a college writing course instead of WOTM.

Phil

Phil, before I became a true Christian, my spiritual heart was empty, it felt like a great empty cavern. My heart was dark, lack of any hope, love, compassion for anything, or anybody for that matter.
When God had first placed His spirit in my heart it felt like a small seed was placed in a great empty place. I know He is always with me because the cavern of my once empty heart is filled to over flowing with joy and peace. Like a rushing warm feeling, a feeling of great comfort, joy, peace swells up in my heart.
Jesus Christ says in John 14:15-18,

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Jesus again in John 4:14,
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

The water in this passage refers to the Holy Spirit.

Phil make the right choice, please repent and believe the Gospel. I will be praying for you, you can count on it!

A TUMOR AND SWELLING IN THE MIND

(Thomas Brooks, "The Unsearchable Riches of Christ")

"The Lord Almighty has done it to destroy your pride
and show His contempt for all human greatness."
Isaiah 23:9

Pride is the original and root of most of those notorious
vices which are to be found among men.

Of all sins, pride is most dangerous to the souls of men.

Pride is . . .
a gilded misery,
a secret poison,
a hidden plague.

Pride is . . .
the conceiver of deceit,
the mother of hypocrisy,
the parent of envy,
the moth of holiness,
the blinder of hearts,
the turner of medicines into maladies.

Of all sins, spiritual pride is most dangerous, and must
be most resisted. Spiritual pride is the lifting up of the
mind against God; it is a tumor and swelling in the
mind, and lies in despising and slighting of God--and in
the lifting up of a man's self, by reason of birth, breeding,
wealth, honor, place, relations, abilities or graces--and in
the despising of others.

Spiritual pride is a white devil, a gilded poison--by which
God is robbed of his honor, and a man's own soul of his
comfort and peace.

Pride is a sure forerunner of a fall. "Pride goes before
destruction, and a haughty mind before a fall."
Herod fell from a throne of gold--to a bed of dust.
Nebuchadnezzar fell from a mighty king--to be a beast.
Adam fell from innocence--to mortality.
The angels fell from heaven--to hell; from felicity--to misery.

"THE DAY IS COMING WHEN YOUR PRIDE WILL BE BROUGHT LOW AND THE LORD
ALONE WILL BE EXALTED. IN THAT DAY THE LORD ALMIGHTY WILL PUNISH THE PROUD, BRINGING THEM DOWN TO THE DUST!" ISAIAH 2:11-12

"THE LORD DETESTS ALL THE PROUD OF HEART. BE SURE OF THIS: THEY WILL NOT GO UNPUNISHED!"
PROVERBS 16:5

No, I think I'm right. It mentions God and cites a book of the bible, so it most certainly is a Christian verse.

"Storeytwin a" quoted a lot of stuff about pride.

I'm wondering who your comment was aimed at? If it was aimed at atheists, do you seriously think that a long list of quotes and unfounded opinions will have any useful effect given the complete lack of basis for your opinion?

If I quoted text from the Noddy series of books, do you imagine you would immediately fall to your knees and pray for recognition from Enid Blyton?

What if I quoted "moral" positions from Harry Potter? Lord of the Rings? Star Wars? Would any of these quotes sway you to change any position you might hold on those stories? Would quotes from or about those stories convince you the stories were real and true?

Can you even understand the point I'm making there? Quoting stories or quotes about stories will not convince others to change a position if they do not accept the source of those quotes as useful texts in the first place.

Quotes are not evidence.

With "have" a brain? Irony in action. :)

I assume you mean "anyone with half a brain" and in that case you might be right. It's those with complete brains that have difficulty accepting religious dogma and unfounded supposition as fact.
