The atheist doesn’t realize that the concept of the God in which he doesn’t believe, doesn’t exist. What all of us tend to do is create an "image" of what we think God is like. We make up a god in our minds with which we feel comfortable. This is standard idolatry. The atheist goes one further. He is guilty of atheistic idolatry. He paints his image of God as a bloody tyrant, cruel and unjust, with which he feels uncomfortable. He may even construct his idol with material from the Scriptures and call his construction a "Megalo-maniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." Then, once his not-so-nice god has been eliminated as being too evil to exist, he feels justifiably free to sin his heart out.
However, the Creator revealed in Scripture not only made the infinite universe, but He fills its space with His holy presence. He is perfect in righteousness, absolute in justice, and sees even the very atoms He used as building blocks for creation. He sees darkness as light, every hair on every human head, and every thought of every human heart. Such a concept is too high for human minds to even begin to comprehend. He is nothing like any of us imagine Him to be. From, The Atheist Bible (due Jan. 2009).
