Welcome once again to the Atheist Church

Atheist creed: "We believe anything, as long as it’s not in the Bible. Amen."

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil" (Luke 4:1-4).

Of course, you don’t believe in the devil. The very thought is ridiculous. But let me tell you about this devil, and what the Bible says of him.

He’s not the little red guy with horns. He’s your father. Your god. You are born of his spirit. He works in you through your sinful nature (see Ephesians 2:2, Ephesians 5:6). Every time you lust, fornicate, blaspheme, hate, lie, steal, are greedy, commit adultery, etc., you are doing his will (see 2 Timothy 2:26).

He blinds your mind. But note where the Bible says that the blindness is. It’s towards something specific. It is towards the gospel (see 2 Corinthians 4:3-4). How does the devil do that? Simply through your unbelief. If you believe that God exists and that your sin is offensive to Him, and if you believe that He provided a Savior to save you from Hell, then you will repent, trust the Savior and find everlasting life. But unbelief stops the oxygen flow. It kills the offer of life. If you don’t believe, then you will remain the devil’s…and his will is to "kill, steal, and to destroy"(see John 10:10).

He feeds your lustful thoughts, and you love it, because what he wills comes naturally to you. This is because you are his. He holds you captive to the fear of death (see Hebrews 2:14-15), and he hates God and treats Christians with contempt. You do his will, so you hate God and treat Christians with contempt.

Of course, you will say that you don’t hate God, and that you have no more hatred for Him than you have for Zeus. When then was the last time you used the name of Zeus as a cuss word?

The devil and all who follow him in rebellion to God, will be cast into Hell. That’s what the Bible says. But of course, you don’t believe it. Then again... Perhaps you had better keep reciting your creed...to keep the faith.

Benediction: May this week you repent of the sin of unbelief, and trust alone in Jesus Christ. The moment you do that, the devil will no longer blind your mind to the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.
