In Complete Control

Hello. My name is “Unreasonable.” I am a very proud demon. I love to hate, and I live for lust. I am extremely prejudiced. Come too close, and I will hiss out my venom. I don’t fear God or man, and I live in the House of Atheist.

If you want to enter my house, know that I control who and what gets in, and I'm in complete control of what comes out. Try knocking to see if I will open the door. Before you even try, let me tell you that I despise truth and will not let it enter . . . unless I think it’s in my best interests.

Take the subject of bats. The Bible says that bats are "birds," probably because they have wings and fly. That’s ridiculous. Bats are not birds. Now if science had said that having wings and flying makes them a form of bird, then that makes sense. In fact, it makes perfect sense.

How about Cain and his wife? Where did she come from? They say he married a sister. I won’t even come to the door on that. It's moronic. However, if science said that we trace our human ancestry back to one individual, then that truth is welcome, because it makes sense.

I can look directly at this vast, intricate creation and say that it’s not proof that there is a Creator. I need give no explanation. Such talk flies in the face of reason and common logic, but I don’t care.

There is a reason I don’t like truth. It’s because it carries light, and I don’t like light . . . unless I can control it. There is a room inside my house that I like to keep dark. Very dark. It is what I call an "adult" fantasy room. You know what I mean. That room keeps the residents here, and it keeps me in control.

I like to call evil good, and good evil. I do this because I hate absolutes, because absolutes speak of truth.

Each time I am unreasonable, I fortify my house.

I love living in the House of Atheist with my other demon friends. That's because we are very welcome here. When the resident is seized by my master and taken to his permanent place, I will just move on and find another house. There are plenty out there.

Actually, I know that everything the Bible says is true. The Word of God makes me tremble. In the face of what I have said, that makes no sense. I know that . . . I'm just being Unreasonable.

This is one of the reasons I dislike many evengelicals such as yourself, Mr. Comfort. You undermine science and reason in the name of faith. If you had your way we would all be living in the dark ages, praising the name of God but going nowhere.
It's fine if you want to live in your God compartment and ignore what the world is telling you, but to subvert others who don't want to? C'mon.

Ray, this is beyond immature, hateful and ignorant. Could you mis-characterize atheists any more? Do you really believe this is what we think?

Lets see, I am an atheist, lets go down Rays list of my traits and see if he gets any right.

Proud demon? Wrong.

Extremely predjudiced? Wrong.

Don’t fear God? Wron...no wait, that one is correct, i do not fear God.

I do fear man sometimes, especially people like Ray that promote this sort of hateful, ignorant garbage.

I say again Ray, you have made very specific claims, this time about me. Prove your case. Give me evidence that i fit this description of an evil atheist.

I am calling you out Ray. You talk a lot of smack Ray, but you don't back it up. Prove me wrong, prove to the group that i am what you claim i am.

Hey Ray, every wonder what has changed over the last 2000 years? I mean in the days when Jesus was on earth it seemed He couldn't walk 5 miles and not run into a demon possessed person. I find it hard to believe that there are just less demons, when Jesus told a legion(serveral thousand)of demons to leave one man and they went into the swine. I wonder sometimes how much truth there is in your story, maybe more than we think.

Some of the atheist on this blog are quite angry people, I don't doubt just how deep their pagan roots run. They worship a god of their own making, lust, money and self. Let us be sure that these people are ever in our prayers. And let us go and make disiples, for the glory of Jesus Christ.

PS Why did you remove vegetarianism from the original version of the Another Earthquake post? I had originally asked how you got vegetarianism from that passage of 1 Timothy, then you edited the post. What's up with that?

Hello, My name is Ray Comfort. I enjoy making strawmen arguments, and then have the strawmen actually tear themselves apart. This befits my worldview since anything that disagrees with me must be a lie.

Like the entire fossil record and the bulk of biological theory. None of it was written in this 2000 year old book, so that means its a lie since the book contains not only all the information in the world, but alot of information beyond the world too. Its a neat book!

If people claim that something the book says is wrong though, then they must be inherently wrong, most likely because they're all sexual deviants, so its perfectly acceptable for me to misquote their argument in order to better ignore it. This is a wonderful way to win all debates, but only works if you can control what people say and banish people I dont like to the cornfield, and its a lucky thing I get to do that here, so I never have to leave and see the insanity of the real world where my opinions can be reasonably challenged. Ooh thats so scary.

If theres evidence that challenges my worldview, then it must be wrong, even if I lack the faculties to explain how, because I am infallable and I am never ever wrong about anything. This is what I call "Being Humble Before God," and is perfectly reasonable.

I enjoy the idea of Hell. Not going there, of course, its so unpleasant, but rather of everyone else who's going there. You see, everyone is a horrible criminal, even if theyve committed no crime, and they must all be sent to Hell eternally to suffer for their crime of not being perfect, like God who wrote the rules and then created us such that we would disobey them. Therefore, the only Just thing to do is to punish His creation for being the very way He made them, by sending everyone to Hell. I get out of Hell though, of course, since even though I'm deserving of the punishment as much as we all are, surely, I am allowed to avoid it. You see, what makes God's justice so perfect is how easy it is to avoid ever facing it.

And God has invented a wonderful way to avoid the perfect punishment he designed for us being us, and it is this. One day God had a Son and then let Him die, but then He didn't, and by believing that He died but didn't, we all become immune to God's perfectly reasonable justice.

Some people don't think that just believing in the not-dead Son who died is enough for their lives, and try to do good things for other people. Others may never have known about the dying of the Son who didn't really die. Still others try to educate themselves in the rules of logic and evidence and study the natural world around them for their own fulfillment and the enrichment of those around them. I hug myself to sleep at night with wonderful dreams of how much they'll suffer for disagreeing with me.

Actually, I'm frightened of having rational debate, and know that no matter how many bad cartoons I draw or how many photoshops I steal without providing attribution that I can't make the nightmares about bananas stop. I know that everything I'm saying makes no sense whatsoever, I know that, I'm just being Ray Comfort.

The Unreasonable Atheist.
AMEN Brother! Great PIC!

You can talk until your blue in the face, and still they will choose the darkness, and refuse to come into the light of truth.

You read them the scriptures and they come back with "you can't judge me! you can't condemn me!"

The scriptures say it!

Sin came into the world with Adam and Eve. Everyone is born into it.
No one is righteous without Christ.

They would rather believe in a imaginery BIG BANG, which no one can explain, than face the FACT of a Creator.

Still waiting for your answer! What caused Big Bang ? its your guess not mine. please tell!

I know the answer ... Create a Scientology theory of space clams came from deep space that we evolved from? What was Hubbard smoking ? I ask you! that puts away the reason for BIG BANG. The aliens did it !!!

Your betting your existence on a big guess. No foundation for the guess ... is even worse!

Go with what we really know!

A higher intelligence that is immortal and eternal. Our Father who art in heaven. Holy is thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

You don't want to face the FACT that all men die. "Born to die" was a song I heard on the radio growing up. No one wants to think about it, but it comes calling each and every day. Refusing to think about it, will not make it go away.

Sticking your head in the sand, will not protect you from His Wrath. Pleading ignorance of the Law will not work. He knows all and sees all.

Are you going to buy a stairway to heaven with evolution? it ends at the grave. Even Richard will tell you that!

Tell me atheist brothers & sisters you do not put your eternal souls in the hands of Darwin and Richard Dawkins.

These men are sinners, and they are not God. They are mortals like you and I. We make mistakes every day. Put your Trust in Jesus!

He over came the grave, over 500 witnessed it. Numerous disciples gave their lives in His service.

The next thing you will tell me is that we have no Soul or Spirit, and that we are animals. I've heard that before in witnessing.
Looking for an excuse to act like an animal, no need to be held accountable.

How sad the "guess work" of Evolution. God made us in His image, and yes he has great plans for us beyond death's door.

I hope and pray that you will be a part of His plans in Heaven.

There is no promise for another life in evolution. Only death and destruction awaits you.

God Bless! Praying for you!

How true brother! People think of the movie "Exorcist" but not all demon possessed people are this bad. Evil can work very quietly in a person or persons in deceiving people to "Make More Money", and become materialistic.

Or, like the atheist, the arrogance of self righteousness and the "know it all" attitude.
Denying there are things that Man can not comprehend or see.

The evil of this world keeps us entertained as well with porn and the lusts of the flesh. Telling us its not sin. Your just enjoying yourself. Nothing wrong with that is there??? WE ARE DECEIVED.

You brought up a very good point.
Thank you for sharing.

Atheists, according to the Bible, you serve satan. Either Jesus is your Father, or satan is your father. It's that simple. Another Fact (it's Biblical so I feel free to capitalize it ;) hee.) is that you do not have God's protection, because you are not a child of God, because you reject Jesus. So, you can be possessed by demons.

Personally, when I read this blog entry, I took it as the voice of a demon in your body (the "house of atheist" being the atheist's body).

The reference to knowing that the Bible is true, is because demons (and the devil) know for a fact the Bible is the Word of God, and they choose to reject it (that's another story).

"When the resident is seized by my master and taken to his permanent place, I will just move on and find another house. There are plenty out there." --When you, atheist, die and go to hell, the demon finds another body to possess.

Personally, I am not sad that some of you atheists reading this blog will go to hell. I'm not sad for you because my God is longsuffering, loving, merciful, perfect, holy, and just. Anyone who goes to hell has chosen his permanent home. Anyone who goes to hell has had TONS AND TONS and tons and TONS!! of chances to repent and choose to serve JESUS.

I say "some" of you atheists will go to hell, because I know not all of you will. Your obsession with this blog is because the holy spirit is tugging on your heart. You can't stay away from Ray's blog and you don't know why. It's because God is calling you by name, and some of you will answer, and your eyes will be opened, and you will mourn the years you lived without Him and wish your proud heart had turned to Him sooner. (Like I did.)

Also, life has a way of knocking the wind out of you and kicking you to your knees. Horrible tragedies happen. Life gets unbearably sad and sometimes there is no way to look but up. For some of you atheists you will look up and call out to a very patient and loving God who will open His loving arms to you; others of you will just CHOOSE to reject Jesus, and cling even more to the hopeless cause that is the father of this world. And you'll go to hell, because you chose it. But you can never say you didn't know, because you did: we were tireless in our efforts to win you over to the truth.

Jesus loves you so much that He came down from Heaven and sacrificed His life on the cross at Calvary so that all of mankind can have a chance to enter Heaven, merely by believing in Him, believing that He died for you and for your sins. If this is just a crazy story made up by a bunch of lunatics, why not chuckle at us and move on? Why do you keep coming back to read this same "crazy" story over and over and over? think. about. it.

Andrew Douglas said...

Where am I going? I guess I don't understand the intention of that question. Could you clarify?
I also don't fully understand your intention with "Praise yourself or the things of the world all you want"
What do you mean? I don't praise myself, I haven't done anything really noteworthy. And praise the things of the world? That's such a broad statement. Are you talking about people? Nature? Man-made creations? Why would I praise those things?

And, as for my reward being death.. my reward for what? Rejecting your God? My reward for that is a lifetime of understanding the universe for what it really is. Death is but an inevitable part of life. It's not a reward, it simply happens.

If those praising God are going nowhere then where are you going that’s any better?
Both of us will die – science and reason aren’t going to take you somewhere that will out run death. Good science benefits Christians too, helps us live longer so that we have more time to preach the gospel. I thank God for good science. But the best science ever (now mater how much praise you give it) cannot give you eternal life. You need Jesus Christ.

Amen!! I've had that same topic come up in many conversations with Christian friends over the years. When ministry/miracles of Jesus are concentrated on, the number of demon expulsions stands out significantly.

It's a heated topic, no doubt, but it's also widely ignored in this day and age as a "reason" for all of the evil acts committed in our country and others. Clearly, if one is not led by the Lord of Hosts, that person is led by the lord of the flies. Christians know this.

Our atheist friends will debate that, comment negatively about it, and a few will resort to name calling for this post that I'm addressing to you.

As stated so many times before, several of the atheists hanging out on this blog do so only to mock us, so when those remarks come, it's just a sad reminder of the darkness of which they are determined to dwell in.

Let us be steadfast in our prayers and use the wisdom given to us as to which person is honestly debating in search of the truth and who is debating for ill intentions.

Peace & Blessings,
Michelle :)

Saying “death is a part of life” to me is like saying “divorce is a part of marriage” or “vomiting is a part of eating.”

These things do happen of course but they’re not a part of each other.
Death is the opposite of life.
Death ends life.
Death is an enemy of life.
Why do we pursue the sciences, except to improve life and avoid death as long as we can?
Do you want to die?
Jesus offers you eternal life, but instead you’d rather have eternal death…?

What if life is a part of death and a literal hell is very real?
That fact that you were alive once, had consciousness, experienced pleasure and pain, means that it is possible for you to experience those things again.

God gave you your life, “science and reason” didn't? Are you going to trust science and reason with your life more than the One who made it and knows everything about it, including your secret sins?

What Ray was trying to do through his post, which you and apparently some other atheists have missed, is the logic behind demonic endeavors and the cloak of deception that it is done in.
Somebody that is not educated in spiritual warfare does not recognize that a battle is raging and therefore does not know how to stand strong and go to the Rock for shelter....they don't see things for what they are and think that no danger exists, instead, they walk on blindly towards the cliff.

I live in a house called fundamentalism. I hate science. It tells the truth and many of those truths don't fit with my stone age worldview. I am obsessed with sex. Completely obsessed by it. So obsessed that I think other people frame their entire wordview on the basis of their sexual desires. I think it is evil. Well sometimes it is evil and sometimes not dependant on some rather peculiar regulations. Just thinking about it is evil. Thats right, I believe that every man and woman on earth is guitly of thought crime, punishable by an eternity of torture, well that is unless they apologise for their involantary thoughts to the magical sky fairy. I think that a series of books, hacked and slashed at by the christian churches (books added, books removed, translations changed etc.) is the inerrant word of God. I like to judge people. I LOVE to judge people. Nothing perks me up like telling people they are going to suffer an eternity of agony becasue they were not suckered by a ridiculous fantasy. I am arrogant. I think I can know the will and desires of an opnipotent being I have never met. I believe in a place called hell. A place where people are tortured FOREVER by a merciful, forgiving and benevolent God who created those people in the first place. I believe that God made day and night and that there were evenings and mornings before he made the sun??? I believe he made the sun and moon with particular attention (the two great lights) and then incidentally created the billions and billions of other stars in the universe. I believe he created the entire universe in six days. Most of that time he spent working on the earth. Just one small planet on the spiral arm of one galaxy. The other billions of galaxies were something of an afterthought.
I think that people who don't believe these things are fools. I believe that the very intelligent scientists who believe in evolution are fools becuase they don't think one ancient book is right about everything. I refuse to educate myself on modern scientific theories which I mock constantly. I am afraid that if I educate myself, I might not be able to hold on to my fantasies anymore.

I know the bible is not the word of God. I know that Hell is absurd. I'm not even sure if any God exists. But hey, there is great money in this racket!!!

That fact that you were alive once, had consciousness, experienced pleasure and pain, means that it is possible for you to experience those things again.

Why? Why is it possible? If I suffer brain damage, I may never feel pain or pleasure again and yet still be alive. I have consciousness because my brain works. The day it stops working that consciousness will go with it.

Degenerative brain diseases, like Alzheimer's disease, Korsakoff's syndrome or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, show what happens when the brain is dying.

Are you saying that when you die all the thoughts and memories that make you who you are, are packaged into something invisible and become independent of the body?

David said...

Michelle,
First, let me say that you were absolutely right about one thing (and not much else): the atheists are going to debate it.
As I understand it, you are claiming that those who don't follow Jesus Christ are servants of Satan. This mis-characterizes not only atheists but also everyone who's not a Christian. You are saying Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Cargo Cultists, and a huge amount of others are horrible people and tools of Satan. So, instead of going through a big thing and defending every religion on the planet, I won't defend any of them. Apologies in advance to everyone who's tired of reading this statistic over and over again, but what can I say? Japan, which is one of the least religious countries worldwide, has one of the lowest crime-rates. Do the Japanese have some kind of technology that defends them from Satanic influences?

Charles, I find that hard to swallow since I worked in asia among buddhists each and every day for 5 years.

I must admit the people are friendly on the surface, but when you talk religion, they get very angry ... so quickly!

Your pagan religion offers nothing but "enlightenment" to the buddhist followers with drugs and incense. Heroin is not the answer!

Buddha did not sacrifice himself for Mankind. Jesus Christ gave the ultimate sacrifice with His blood and life on the cross.

You burn offerings & give money to his image, but you are just worshipping a idol.

It has no power over the grave.
Only God has that power over death.

Jesus Christ over came the grave, and there were over 500 witnesses to it.

Yours is a sad sad religion.

I've seen people convert from it to Christianity. The Word of God changed their hearts and brought them to the Blood Stained Cross!

Anything goes in your religion, especially drugs! Incense and drugs make the people 'happy' for the moment, but give them nothing in promise beyond the grave.

I have studied this man and see him for what he was, a false prophet.

Those that make, keep, trust in, worship, or serve idols, their final destiny is to perish. They shall have eternity to consider the error of their way. Let us not forget, however, that graven images are not the only kinds of idols. Consider—stubbornness and anything that comes before God could be considered an idol of sorts.

Beware: fear God and obey Him.

It is written:

Isa 31:7- FOR IN THAT DAY EVERY MAN SHALL CAST AWAY HIS IDOLS OF SILVER, AND HIS IDOLS OF GOLD, WHICH YOUR OWN HANDS HAVE MADE UNTO YOU FOR A SIN.

2 Chronicles 28

Ahaz Reigns in Judah

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the LORD, as his father David had done. 2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made molded images for the Baals. 3 He burned incense in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and burned his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. 4 And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
Syria and Israel Defeat Judah

5 Therefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. They defeated him, and carried away a great multitude of them as captives, and brought them to Damascus. Then he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who defeated him with a great slaughter. 6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed one hundred and twenty thousand in Judah in one day, all valiant men, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. 7 Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, Azrikam the officer over the house, and Elkanah who was second to the king. 8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters; and they also took away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

WeeMaryAnne, Your copy had chapters? Anyway, Bunyan's endeavor to portray the Christian's life journey by representing various theological themes in the form of a story does give the book sort of a "cut-and-pasty" flavor. But give him a break. He had to use real scissors and real paste.

Interestingly, in the story the pilgrims encounter a character named "Atheist". Atheist is beside himself with laughter, and ridicules these "ignorant persons" for taking upon them such a tedious journey to a place that "doesn't even exist".

Yeah. Like that could really happen.

Ray,

I have to ask again "What is the purpose of this blog?"

You knowingly create these false caricatures of atheist. You know very well this is not an accurate description of atheist, you know very well you will not be successful converting any atheist using these dishonest tactics, and you know very well only those who have already been blinded by your silly nonsense will buy into this silly nonsense.

So, What’s the point?

How’s the book and DVD sales, Ray?

Don't you just love it when theists cannot come up with any good arguments against atheists, so they have to invent their own version of what they wished atheists believed, then attack that, as though it were actually based on what we actually said?

Seriously, there isn't a single thing in that attempt at sarcasm, that is remotely based on what atheists say. It's all what Ray wishes we said, and as such, is poor sarcasm. Good sarcasm should, at the very least, be made, in part, of actual things that the other person says.

Awesome!

In the past few months, I've been discussing religion with a few of my Christian friends.

One of the things that inevitably gets pointed out is that intelligent people are prone to pride and arrogance.

One of my favorite replies is, "how would you go about judging whether a group of people tends towards ignorance?" I point them to a leader of many Christians, with an award winning Christian show and the author of many popular Christian books, who writes things like this-- and gets the replies that they do, and the support from the Christian community.

Inevitably, the person cringes, and admits that it's possible that arrogance may possibly be a Christian trait as well.

All you are left with is heresay accounts and no corroboration whatsoever.

John Doyle responded to my comment; That fact that you were alive once, had consciousness, experienced pleasure and pain, means that it is possible for you to experience those things again.
”Why? Why is it possible? If I suffer brain damage, I may never feel pain or pleasure again and yet still be alive. I have consciousness because my brain works. The day it stops working that consciousness will go with it…. Are you saying that when you die all the thoughts and memories that make you who you are, are packaged into something invisible and become independent of the body?"

The fact that your thoughts, memory, and consciousness are in piece of meat(3lbs worth)– is a miracle itself. If God can do that then he can bring back all your memories and personality and life – it’s called the Resurrection. And (this will annoy you) God has a mind, intelligence, and personality but without a physical brain or body.

But I know you don’t believe in God or the Resurrection but rather that an impersonal, unintelligent, amoral, irrational universe that blew-up for no reason and by chance and time accidentally created personal, intelligent, moral, rational creatures who would figure out that after death they really are just impersonal, unintelligent, amoral, irrational corpses.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste… Don’t waste it on your assumptions of death, when you can KNOW about eternal life.

So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; (Ephesians 4:17-18))

There's nothing offensive about being warned, especially when it concerns a matter of practical public safety.

It's an entirely different thing to be annoyed by people who constantly warn us of phony and imaginary threats, in ways that are rude.

I can warn you -- "if you don't cross the street when the light is green, and you get a crossing signal, you can get hit by a car."

The way you people warn is more like "If you don't believe that I'm in better touch with the invisible being that guides me than you are, and beleive that my warnings about hell are real, it means that you're a fool, and you'll probably deserve all the suffering you get!"

Are you speaking for Wee MaryAnne now? Has something happened that she has been rendered unable to speak for herself, or is the "WE" in your comment indicative of some kind of a "group think"? Hmm. =)

Anyway, its obvious that MaryAnne has herself realized that her behavior has been pedantic. Her posts have improved in the past 12 hours. Perhaps this is a new trend we can look forward to. ;)

As someone who can appreciate sarcasm, name-calling doesn't qualify. So yes, by resorting to name-calling, it does discredit the author. How can you take someone seriously when they say "YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND YOUR ARGUMENT IS LAME!! But know you not that according to the horticultural society of America, the fig tree produces a fig every 3,200 seconds?"

RE: Spiritual Warfare, it is a real phrase (not fake), well known to every Christian. No point in going into detail, since as MaryAnne pointed out elsewhere, she is an atheist and chooses not to believe in my God or His enemy.

Also, there is really no point in taking the time to write it and going into detail, only to get the typical atheist response which, based on what I've read in this blog, will be more name-calling. Not very conducive to discussion. =)

"We already hear what you are saying. We just consider it to be false." Then why do you continue to return here? Just curious if you know what draws you here and what keeps you coming back for more?

There are a lot of things I don't believe in. Life is short, time is precious, and quite frankly I can't imagine spending even a minute of my day reading and writing on a blog that I am vehemently opposed to--JUST for the sake of arguing. I really hate sports. REALLY. But, I'm not going to go to a sports blog and argue with everyone on how much I hate sports, or thinking that my personal experience on why I hate sports will convince anyone that they should hate sports, too. At face value, your behavior is quite odd.

BUT knowing what I know, particularly as a former atheist, I know why you keep coming here. I know why you are obsessed with this blog and Christianity. I know why you can't just stay away and go happily live your life. Just wondering if you have ever given it serious thought, yourself.

"That fact that you were alive once, had consciousness, experienced pleasure and pain, means that it is possible for you to experience those things again."
You asked…
”Do you mean that you can experience these things after death? Could you provide evidence for this? Without invoking scripture?”

I’ve said this before to others,
What king of evidence will you accept?
Why are your grounds for evidence more accurate than mine?
You want empirical evidence, but…
Can you trust you eyes? Ever see an illusion?
Can you trust your hears? Ever mishear something?
Can you trust yourself? Have you ever been wrong?
You want poof of the Bible's message on your terms, but your terms are fallible.

The greatest evidence (and only one worth trusting) about life and death is Scripture, because it’s God’s Word. It hasn’t been disprove, the testimony of itself is impeccable, and it aligns with reality, especially with the human conscience.

If I needed a “means (like your pre-approved forms of evidence)” to validate the Bible then that “means” would be the greater authority, but then what would validate that new “means.” Atheists and others claim that “human reasoning” is the greater standard for discovering truth. Christians believe that reason can help but it’s only “God’s Word” that speaks 100% truth. But if you really wanted to see that evidence, you'd talk to the one who’s been dead and who came back and knows all about heaven and hell - Jesus Christ. If you’re not willing to accept the teachings of the expert on the afterlife then my guess is that you really don’t want evidence after all.

BUT THIS IS WHAT SHOCKED ME…

You said…
I wouldn't want eternal life. Even if I believed that Jesus Christ could give me eternal life, I would not want it.

So if you could KNOW the God who made you and He offered the complete forgiveness of all your sin, give you everlasting life in heaven, where there is no sickness, disease, suffering, pain, confusion, and death but instead complete peace, immediate knowledge of God and of others, a perpetual state of awe in the presences of the most benevolent and awesome Being of all, you’d say NO?!?

Is that really what you'd still say "NO" to?

The fact remains that some evidence is more credible than other evidence. Cyclical evidence based upon The Bible simply isn't credible enough.

Here's another interesting tidbit. I know that my senses can be deceived (pushed past their limits) because I can conduct empirical tests that bring the measurements within the limits of my senses. There is nothing like that with the bible. As you trust the bible over your senses and over logic (you reinterpret the inconsistencies) you have no way to test the bible. So, even assuming it wrong, you have shielded it from disproof.

”It is quite true that my senses can be deceived. However, as my knowledge of the bible can only come through those senses, it cannot outrank them in reliability.”

It does outrank you and me – It’s object external truth – independent of our feels and knowledge – It’s true whether you know it or not, believe it or not, like it or not. The problem is that you read it as a dead letter because you don’t know the Author. If a girl named Kate wrote you a love letter, you might read it and appreciate lines of poetry, certain phrases, and even think it was the best love letter you ever read, but if you don’t know her, the letter wouldn’t mean a thing to you personally. But if Kate is your fiancé or wife then the letter has a completely new meaning.

God wrote you a letter – you don’t know Him and so His words fall on deaf ears. Jesus explained this over and over with His parables (his illustrations) that those with only natural eyes would remain blind to the things of God. You use physical senses to know the physical world – God can only be known in spirit and in truth. Are you a living corpse or a spiritual being? This is why it takes being “born again” (a Spiritual rebirth) to know what the Christians are talking about.

I don’t need to shield the Bible from disproof – God does it on His own – Souls still get saved. People come to faith in Christ and receive eternal life all the time. It will be a glorious day if it happens to you and I will pray that it happens soon.

Non-existance is not an option, and really you don't get a say when you are judged. The Judge decides(if you've lied, stoloen, lusted), Jesus will determine whether you end up in Heaven or Hell. And even if you don't repent and trust in Him as Savior, you will bow your knee to Him as Lord, for He is your Lord no matter what you think or believe, the question is whether He is your Savior. All we are trying to do is warn you of your folly and foolishness.

Your knowledge is dead, blind, and deaf, only God can give you life to live, eyes to see, and ears to hear, spiritually and literally.

Ray, may I ask why my last comment wasn't posted ?? I made effort to capitalize every instance of your deity's name and not to use any profanity (and believe me, that was quite a difficult task after reading this post of yours).

The first paragraph of my previous comment could certainly be deemed 'outside the boundaries of Christian civility' but as I stated in the second paragraph, that was the entire point. I was presenting an argument similar to the one you presented here in order to show how uncivil and unnecessary this mode of argument is. I even stated this in the comment.

Unless you just haven't got around to passing my last comment (which seems unlikely since it was a few hours ago and there are discussions between users already posted since I posted my comment) or unless there was some form of profanity or uncapitalised name I can't see how you can support the post you made and refuse to accept mine.

As I stated above and in my original comment, anything that may have been deemed 'unchristian' was simply an example of how one might argue back at you using the same mode of argument you'd presented in your post. To refuse to publish my comment because it seemed 'abusive' or 'outside the boundaries of Christian civility' is to admit the post we're commenting on is also outside of those boundaries. That was the entire point of my post.

Well, you would be wrong. Non-believers become born again Christians all the time, happens every day and THAT is the entire purpose of this blog. (You know this is a Christian evangelist's blog right? K, just checking.) The Word of God never comes back void. It convicts you either way. ;)

"I am, of course, assessing people's beliefs by their words; and if I have incorrectly assessed someone's beliefs, he is welcome to correct me."

Ok, but you didn't answer my question to you which was, why do you come here?

Your friend MaryAnne says she comes here to "kick butts". Obviously she is obsessed with Christianity and isn't sure why. Well, I know why, MaryAnne! Keep visiting us! The Christians are happy to see your shining face continue to post here. So is Jesus. ;) Hey MaryAnne, we have something in common!! I can't stop talking about Jesus and obviously neither can you. =)

Hello. My name is “Unreasonable.” I am a very proud demon.

There is a reason I don’t like truth. It’s because it carries light, and I don’t like light . . . unless I can control it.

Martin Luther:
Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but -- more frequently than not -- struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God.

Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding, and whatever it sees must be put out of sight and ... know nothing but the word of God.

There is on earth among all dangers no more dangerous thing than a richly endowed and adroit reason... Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed.

Reason should be destroyed in all Christians.

Whoever wants to be a Christian should tear the eyes out of his Reason.

To be a Christian, you must "pluck out the eye of reason."

People gave ear to an upstart astrologer [Copernicus] who strove to show that the earth revolves, not the heavens or the firmament, the sun and the moon. Whoever wishes to appear clever must devise some new system, which of all systems is of course the very best. This fool wishes to reverse the entire science of astronomy; but sacred scripture tells us [Joshua 10:13] that Joshua commanded the sun to stand still, and not the earth.

So to gather from these two, reason is the work of the devil, and the lack of reason is also the work of the devil.

Martin Luther's opinion of Copernicus was not all that different to Ray's opinion on evolution evolutionary scientists.

She saw thru the foolishness of your pagan religion. The monks don't care for the people.

They just enjoy doing drugs and chatting gibberish in a shrine.

Of course you wouldn't take heaven because you know you wouldn't be allowed in. You didn't want hell because...who wants to go to hell!?! Nonexistance, wow, now that is one slick move. This is the one option that would keep you from being responsible for your sinning against God. Sorry to say andrew, your only two options are heaven or hell, and we've already established the fact that you won't be going to heaven in your current state. If I were you, which I am not, I would be so mad at what I just told you. But it would get me to thinking and examining myself. We are all going to die, there is no doubt about that. It's what happens after that we should be prepared for. No, I have never died before physically. I get all my information from the Bible. If loving the Lord is wrong, I don't wanna be right!!!

Ray,

why wasn't my last comment posted? All i did was respond to your question. I followed all your rules. Just in case you lost it, here it is again. If you don't post comments, you should let people know why.

"Ray said,

"adambu...from what you have said of yourself, you are a very nice person. Why

are you so upset?"

Well, because of what you said in your post. That all atheists are
unreasonable, evil, hateful, prejudiced etc...That we have demons living in us.

You don't know me, you don't really know anyone on this forum. Yet you are perfectly willing to, time and time again to write about how what evil liars we are. This is how racism and hate against other people works on a large scale in
society. You classify us as a group, not as individuals and you say all sorts of nasty things about us to people that look up to you and see you as a leader.

Awfully hypocritical to act like this and let Terry go around calling the atheists Nazis. And when somebody, say, me, actually calls you out about it, you back pedal and claim ignorance of your own message.

Ray said, "adambu...from what you have said of yourself, you are a very nice person. Why are you so upset?"

I am a very nice person Ray. And now, because of you, a lot of people on this blog think i am possessed by a demon, that i am prejudiced, and evil just because
i think differently from them and have some different opinions.

Do you understand now why this is upsetting? How do you expect postings like this to foster communication and understanding between people with different
views? This isn't love your neighbor, this is, be scared of your neighbor, he is possessed by a DEMON!! don't listen to him! EVERYTHING he says is a lie! only
listen to me!! buy my books!!

You might as well say all black people are savages, all Jews want to eat your children, all Mexicans are lazy, all catholics want to kill the Jews, etc..."

I would also like to know how you Christians reconcile this post, stating that the reason atheists are the way they are is because of demon possession. What ever happened to the concept of free will?

Which am i? possessed or operating with my free will to make my own choices. Or are some of us, the nice ones like me, not demon possessed and the ones you think are not so nice, say Clos, because he used some potty language demon possessed?

The Christians on this site go on and on that we all have free will thanks to God, and that we atheists KNOW there is a God, and choose to rebel against him. But now this posts says that my atheism is the result of demons... which is it? make up your minds. Or is this like everything else in religion, there is no definitive answer, its all in how the individual chooses to intemperate scripture in such a way that it fits what they want it to say?

"According to evolution" ... this just shows that you lack even the most basic notions of the theory of evolution.

Pigs will never fly. They would first have to evolve to be a lot smaller and at least arboreal, and by that stage they would no longer be pigs. The chances of that happening are extremely remote.

T-Rex did not evolve into a bird. The species became extinct because they were no longer able to adapt to the environmental conditions. The avian dinosaurs were able to adapt and have thrived.

So you say. Perhaps I should've said that I would rather plan for nonexistance, than for heaven or hell.

"and we've already established the fact that you won't be going to heaven in your current state"

Oh? My mother told me that one sure-fire way to get into heaven was to accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal savior; this, once done, could not be undone. I did that when I was 4, so, theoretically any future actions cannot erase that fact, at least in the eyes of God?
Maybe you subscribe to a slightly different idea of how to get into heaven, I don't know. There seems to be so many of them, how do I know which is the right one?
Don't tell me it's the literal Biblical interpretation, because that interpretation also tells me I shouldn't eat shellfish, and I love me some lobster.

Hi Adambu =)

"I would also like to know how you Christians reconcile this post, stating that the reason atheists are the way they are is because of demon possession. What ever happened to the concept of free will?"

Atheists aren't necessarily possessed by a demon, but you CAN be possessed. Not just atheists, but any non-believer (non born again Christian) doesn't have God's protection and can be possessed by a demon. The demon possession isn't the cause of your atheism, the potential to be possessed is the RESULT of your atheism. (Hope that makes sense.)

"Which am i? possessed or operating with my free will to make my own choices."

I don't know if you are possessed or not, I would venture to guess that most non-believers are not possessed. I have no way of knowing for sure =) but since you're acting very normal I would say probably not. And, obviously you are free to make whatever choices you like.

"The Christians on this site go on and on that we all have free will thanks to God, and that we atheists KNOW there is a God, and choose to rebel against him."

Exactly. =)

"But now this posts says that my atheism is the result of demons... which is it?"

Ray's post isn't saying that your atheism is the result of demons. First of all, your atheism is the result of your personal choice. Demons can possess non-believers because they aren't born again of the Holy Spirit. Christians can't be possessed because they have been baptized by the Holy Spirit.

When I read Ray's post, I took it to be a first-person monologue in the voice of a demon possessing an atheist's body. I think many atheists misunderstood, and thought he was speaking first-person as the atheist themselves.

Oh yeah baby.

I digress.

The bible says we are to repent - turn from our sins - and put our faith in Jesus for our salvation we would be saved. Just saying a prayer someone has you repeat won't cut it. One last note...JEWS weren't suppose to eat the shellfish. Are you jewish? Even if you were, God said , "let nothing I have made be called unclean." This pertained to the foods they were and were not allowed to eat.
Anyhow, any other questions? LOL
Just kidding.

Emily,

I said,

"The Christians on this site go on and on that we all have free will thanks to God, and that we atheists KNOW there is a God, and choose to rebel against him."

and you said,

"Exactly. =)"

How do you reach that conclusion? How do you KNOW that what i think? The only thing you can know about with any sense of certainty is that i do not believe in god. How can you claim to know the reasons why are different than what i state them to be? I do not trust knowledge achieved through personal revelation. Thats called making stuff up. In other words, you are just making stuff up about people because you have no real way of knowing it.

Also, lets talk about this demon possession thing, this is interesting! You really believe that people can be possessed? How does this happen? where do the demons come from? why do they choose some atheists and not others? Was Clos possessed when he used dirty language? I use dirty language all the time, just not here since it would get me kicked, am i possessed when i am not on this site? is that how powerful Ray is with God?

Why doesn't God just make it so nobody can be possessed? what is the actual difference between being baptized by the Holy Spirit and not being? Can you see it? Can you measure it? How do you know there is a difference? How exactly does that ward off the demons? can you see demons? what do the demons do when they are not possessing people and making them use swear words? and so on...

tell me about the demons!

Andrew Douglas said... "Oh? My mother told me that one sure-fire way to get into heaven was to accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal savior; this, once done, could not be undone."

Your mother was wrong to tell you that. The bibles says that you must repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ as God, Lord and Savior. You don't accept Jesus, you receive Him as Lord and Savior. You must be born again, you are not a Christian just because you "accept" Jesus. Read the Gospel of John, and if you believe what you read as true about the person and work of Christ, repent of your sins, and put your faith and trust that Christ can and will save you according His promises, He will save you.

We know what the bible says about you. Either you are a child of God through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ or you are a child of your father the Devil. Those are the only options, which are you?

Emily - so why is it that only the religious (usually claiming Christianity) are the ones that get possessed and require exorcism. Non believers do not get possessed by something that does not exist.

The demon theory lost out to medical science a long time ago. Things like germ theory and mental health theory provide more explanatory power.

I'm happy for you to go in for faith healing while I go to the hospital when sick.

The God or gods theory also lost out to physical science a long time ago. Things like plate tectonic theory, climate theory (thunder and lightening), and yes our old favourite, evolutionary theory.

I am a human being...what are you talking about? Let me get this straight, what you are saying is that, with out exception, a person is either a Christian, or the son of Satan? ANYONE that doesn't accept Christianity is evil. Is that what you are saying?

Why don't you just look at that statement for minute and really let it sink is, then let me know if you still want to stand by it.

I reject that idea with every fiber of my being. I should think that any sane, rational, educated person would do that same thing. Please give me one good, real world reason why that statement is true. Don't give me scripture, thats not useful in the real world, talking about real people.

Again, some Christians on this site make some very serious, and totally uninformed claims about people they have never met, based solely on one facet of their total being.

Wouldn't it be great if people, when they make claims about others, also provided evidence? Such as,

"Adam, you are an atheist, which also makes you the son of the devil, i know this because you routinely do evil things, such as killing, theft, rape etc... I know you do these things because i have seen your police record, i have talked to your parents and know that you killed small animals as a child. I have also met you in person and spent time with you and witnessed you walk in to an orphanage and steal the kids crutches and wheel chairs. Based on these things, which i can prove have happened, i make the claim that you are evil, and the son of the Devil.(Ray, does Devil have to be capitalized too?)"

If i saw that, then i would agree you might have a good argument for me being evil. Instead, what i get from you is this.

"Adam, you are an atheist. The Bible says you are evil. Therefor, regardless that i know absolutely nothing about you, you are evil."

Shiver, your argument is weak, it has no legs to stand on and no evidence to back it up. Would you like to rethink your claim?

ShiVeR said...

adambu said... "what you are saying is that, with out exception, a person is either a Christian, or the son of Satan? ANYONE that doesn't accept Christianity is evil. Is that what you are saying?"

Yes thats what the the word of God says, not quite how you do, but yes. Everyone is evil at heart left to themselves, even Christians, the difference is that through repentance and faith in the life and work of Jesus Christ, God declares those that are born again as righteous. Jesus paid for my sin on the cross, I am still a sinner, but made righteou through Christ, before God. That's why Heaven is opened to me and without Christs righteousness all will go to Hell.

and

"I reject that idea with every fiber of my being"

I know you do. Thats why you'd be considered a unbeliever.

and

"Would you like to rethink your claim?"

No! I used to think along the same mind set as you and most every unbeliever does. God renewed my mind though faith in Christ. I repented 3 years ago of my sin and the worlds way of thinking. Thank God that He is Lord over all, even my prideful, sinful self. He is Lord over you too, though you are living in rebelion to the King, He will show you one day. I pray it will be before He judges you for every thought, word, and deed.
