The essence of "white" light is invisible. We can’t see it. Despite this, science has taught us that it's actually made up of seven beautiful colors that are undetectable to the human eye until they are refracted through a prism. Of course, we know that the seven colors are the amazing colors we see in a rainbow--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
God is light (see 1 John 1:5, Revelation 21:23), and the Scriptures tell us that He is invisible to the human eye (Colossians 1:15, 1 Timothy 1:17). As Christians, we are to refract the beautiful nature of the invisible God to this sinful world. We must do this because many make up their own image of what they think He is like (idolatry), while others say that He doesn’t exist (foolishness). We are to show them the seven colors of His perfect character: His fearful holiness, His perfect righteousness, His absolute justice, His truth, love, faithfulness, and mercy.
When it rains, billions of drops of water fall from the heavens. Each drop acts as a tiny prism that God has created, and splays the seven colors of the rainbow across the sky, reminding those that love God, that He keeps every promise He makes.
He is the source of life itself and has given eternal life to those that obey Him (see Hebrews 5:9). And He has manifest the beauty of His character through His Word: "For with you is the fountain of life: in your light shall we see light" (Psalm 36:9).
