"Ray wrote: ‘We love you, and our deepest desire is for you to find the gift of everlasting life, and you will only find that by following the Good Shepherd.’ You have a strange way of showing love, calling us fools, stupid, prideful, claiming we don't exist, etc. It's like the boyfriend who beats you up to a bloody pulp and then goes out to the store the next day and buys you a necklace."
The truth is that the Christian is like a doctor, who is working with a patient who has psychological problems. He has been well-trained to recognize that his client will suffer from delusional paranoia (thinking that the good doctor wants to harm him).
You may think that I am beating the atheist to "a bloody pulp" with my words, but it’s not me that calls the professing atheist a "fool." It is God’s Word--“The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God'" (Psalm 14:1). It’s not me that says that you are prideful, it’s the Word of God. It says that it is the pride of your face that is stopping you from seeking God. It even reveals that it’s not that you cannot find Him, but that you will not (see Psalm 10:4). In other words it’s a matter of your will--you don’t want God.
It is me, however, that claims that you don’t exist. This is because it is impossible for any atheist to exist. It just takes a little thought to figure that one out.
Any thinking person who denies God’s existence will admit that he doesn’t know for certain that there is no God, because somewhere in the universe (in the evidence he hasn’t yet come across) there may be ample evidence to prove that He does exist. He is therefore forced to say "With the limited knowledge I have at present, I have come to the conclusion that there is no God, but I really don’t know." So he cannot truthfully say "There is no God." He’s not an atheist. He’s actually an agnostic--someone who doesn’t know if God exists.
