Today's sermon is a little unusual in that it’s nothing but the genealogy of Jesus. While modern man traces himself back to apes, the Bible traces us all back to Adam, and this was the case of Jesus of Nazareth:

23And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
24Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,
25Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,
26Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,
27Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,
28Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er,
29Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,
30Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,

34Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,
35Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,
36Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,
37Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,
38Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God (Luke 3:23-38).

Boring reading though it may be to some, this family tree is of great importance because it shows that Jesus' lineage comes through King David (a sign of the Messiah). It also confirms that he was indeed Jewish.

It's interesting to note that Hitler believed in God, and was a follower of Jesus Christ. So was Judas Iscariot. One difference between the two is that the Jesus that Hitler believed in, certainly wasn’t the Jesus of the Bible.

Joseph Goebbles served as Hitler's Propaganda Minister. His Roman Catholic parents raised him and his two brothers in that faith, but despite this he had a twisted understanding of who Jesus was:

"Christ is the genius of love, as such the most diametrical opposite of Judaism, which is the incarnation of hate. The Jew is a non-race among the races of the earth.... Christ is the first great enemy of the Jews.... that is why Judaism had to get rid of him. For he was shaking the very foundations of its future international power. The Jew is the lie personified. When he crucified Christ, he crucified everlasting truth for the first time in history."

He said, "Christ cannot have been a Jew. I do not need to prove this with science or scholarship. It is so!"

Jesus was Jewish (see John 4:9), His parents were Jewish, his ancestry was Jewish. His disciples were Jewish. He was sent to the Jewish people by God because God loved the Jews with an everlasting love . The first 3,000 converts were Jews. So were the next 5,000. Goebbels was guilty of creating "another Jesus" (see 2 Corinthians 11:4). Be careful that you don't make the same mistake.
