Science and Religion
"I was thinking pretty hard today about where my issues lie with Ray's opinions. The biggest part of it is indeed where he claims I believe things I don't, or disparages me, or claims he knows better than I do what my own beliefs are. Where I guess I end up butting heads with people here in the comments is where some of you insist that the Bible is inerrant and as such condemn any science that contradicts it. Science is blind to religion. It cares not if it supports it or refutes it.” Plagiarize
Plagiarize . . . I presume that you are making reference to my “an atheist is someone who believes that nothing made everything.” I can understand why that’s offensive, but if you want to call yourself "an atheist," that is indeed what you believe. You have no belief in a Creator. So there was no creative initiative. However, if you don’t like that definition, and you insist on saying that something made everything, then you can’t take on the label “atheist.” You are an agnostic. There are no in-betweens.

Origin of Species
Does anyone know the original full title for Origin of Species, and if so, could you explain why that title is no longer used?
And what do talkorigins.org mean by: “Darwin himself was far less racist than most of his contemporaries”?

A Confused Professor Dawkins
"We admit that we are like apes, but we seldom realise that we are apes." Richard Dawkins
Add to that, his answer to Ben Stein's question...
BEN STEIN: "What do you think is the possibility that Intelligent Design might turn out to be the answer to some issues in genetics or in evolution."

RICHARD DAWKINS: "It could come about in the following way: it could be that, at some earlier time somewhere in the universe a civilization evolved by probably by some kind of Darwinian means to a very very high level of technology and designed a form of life that they seeded onto perhaps this planet . . . and that designer could well be a higher intelligence from elsewhere in the universe." (italics added, from, "Expelled").
Perhaps a debate would not be a mismatch after all:

The atheist has no "faith." So he believes.
“I was just reading some reviews of your book over on Amazon. LOL. I had a quick look at the first page of the book and I just had to pass on my observation. The first lie I can see is in the third sentence on page 1: ‘An ‘atheist’ believes that there is no God...’ While that statement correctly describes me -- I believe that there is no God -- the vast majority of atheists do not hold this view. They merely lack belief in gods. Quite different from what you are saying. I'm calling you out on the lie as I know we've explained the difference to you many times now. It isn't just a simple mistake on your part. It's a lie Ray.” alphgeek
It’s true. Most contemporary atheists carefully say that they “lack belief in gods.” I say “carefully” because they don’t want to be seen as having any “faith” at all, probably because of its overtones.
So let’s look closely at what they are saying. If I tell you “I lack belief that my Ford truck has a maker,” I am saying that I think nothing made it. It just happened. That is scientifically impossible. Nothing is nothing. It cannot “make” anything. If it can make something, then it’s not nothing because it has the power to make something.
So the contemporary atheist with his semantics paints himself into an intellectual dilemma. He has the choice of thinking nothing made everything, that something made everything (perhaps God) and is no longer an atheist, or he joins the “Don’t Understand How” club--the DUH.
Penn Jillette is a well-known atheist. Look at his honesty when it comes to the issue of believing: “I believe that there is no God. I'm beyond atheism. Atheism is not believing in God. Not believing in God is easy . . . But, this ‘This I Believe’ thing seems to demand something more personal, some leap of faith that helps one see life's big picture, some rules to live by. So, I'm saying, ‘This I believe: I believe there is no God.’”

The Catholic church and evolution
The Catholic church released a statement recently saying that Christianity is compatible with evolution. I released one saying that the two are not at all compatible. Genesis says that God made man in His own image (a moral entity), as male and female, with the ability to reproduce after their own kind (within their own species). Jesus affirmed this by saying “In the beginning God made them male and female” (Mark 10:6). The Scriptures also differentiate between the flesh of animals and the flesh of human beings--"All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds” (1 Corinthians 15:39). The closest they can get for human skin grafts is pigskin, and even then the graft may not take.
William Donahue, the eloquent and intelligent president of the Catholic League responded with the heading “The simple mind of Ray Comfort,” and rightly called me a “Protestant.” He said, “Protestant author Ray Comfort recently said that ‘the Vatican has chosen to officially believe Darwin rather than Jesus.’ He accuses the Catholic Church of failing to exercise ‘common sense’ and of failing to think ‘too deeply’ about evolution.
“The best-selling author doesn’t mince words: ‘The Vatican, in essence, is saying ‘Don’t believe Jesus or Genesis. Believe Darwin instead.’ He even goes so far as to say that ‘In the name of diversity, the Vatican is encouraging atheism, and that’s a terrible betrayal of Christianity.’
“Comfort is wrong. The fact is that in the 1950s, Pope Pius XII said there was no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of faith, as long as God was not excluded. Pope John Paul II affirmed this teaching in the mid-1990s.
“In other words, the Catholic Church teaches that God is the author of all creation. How stages of human development have unfolded is a legitimate area of scientific inquiry, and it has nothing to do with rejecting God as the Creator. Moreover, to say that one must believe in either Jesus or Darwin smacks of an inability to ‘think deeply’ about the subject. Even more preposterous is the assertion that the Vatican is encouraging atheism. What’s next? The pope is the Anti-Christ?”

One wage packet you don't want to collect
"Hey I just saw your new billboard on the 105 near my house. Thanks for clarifying for me that it is illogical to believe that things don't just come from nothing 'magically.' Seriously, how can milk and honey just exist? Their mere existence proves that God exists since everything has a creator. I have one concern though, based on your logic. Who created God? Did He just magically appear? According to what your arguing, it's silly to believe that. I mean, everything has a creator right? Things don't just magically appear out of thin air. So who created God? Or is your brand of logic only applicable against what you disagree with? Thank you for solidifying my beliefs."
Atheists often plead ignorance when it comes to the Initial Cause--as to what came before the Big Bang. Whatever it was that created the material for it to take place, had to be non-material (therefore free from the law of entropy), as well as dwell outside of the dimension of time (time logically demands that everything has a beginning and an end).
The Spirit of God qualifies for both (see Genesis 1:2). He is spirit (without a material body). He created time and is therefore not subject to it (revealed in the perfectly fulfilled Messianic prophecies).
You are right when you say that nothing "magically appears." God is eternal--without beginning and without end, but He is also perfect in holiness. So whatever you do in this life, make sure you are right with Him because you don't want to collect your due wages (see Romans 6:23).

Children, and their propensity to do wrong
"Ray said ‘...we are criminals in God’s eyes, who have seriously violated His Law.’ Whoa! This is gold, Ray, pure gold! So every newborn baby who has just taken their first breath is a criminal in the eyes of your God? That seems a rather harsh and uncompromising view of things. We bring children into the world so they can be sinners. With a view of the world like this, why would anyone ever want to have children?” ~ Kristine
Kristine . . . Your “With a view of the world like this, why would anyone ever want to have children?” is interesting. People who believe in the reality of a sinful nature are the ones that have large families, and people who think that man is basically good, are the ones that kill their own kids through abortion. So your conclusion is erroneous. A famous preacher once said, “Children without sin? You without eyes, you mean!” How true. Anyone with kids and who can see will know that children don’t have to be taught how to do wrong. They know how to lie and how to be selfish. It comes naturally. That's because they are born with a sinful nature. This isn't harsh or an uncompromising view of life. It's reality. Parents have to teach their children to tell the truth and to share. Leave any child without instruction as to what is right and what is wrong, and he will almost always end up in big trouble.

Here are ten reviews from Amazon.com for my new book, You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence But You Can’t Make Him Think. See if you can spot the Christian reviews, and then those posted by atheists:
“Comfort is a charlatan.”
“Dreadful piece of drivel.”
“Great logical thinking.”
“So good the atheists can't wait to bash it.”
“Terrible.”
“A MUST READ!!!”
“Logical thinking and good science!”
“Nonsense.”
“You can tell how good this book is by how many atheists are claiming to have read it and then give it a one star review.”

One of my long-standing friends
This man's name is Gilbert (“little buddy” to his close friends). He is 7' tall. He tells people that he’s 6’ 12”. I’m a more down-to-earth 5’ 5”.
Gilbert has big feet. Really big feet. He wears a size 17--a small canoe for my entire family. I wear a mere 8 1/2.
Gilbert has a big skull, big hands, big bones, and a big brain. You could call him “Homo great Dane-ian,” and me “Homo Chihuahua,” if you wish. But whatever you call us, it wouldn’t change the fact that we are of the same species--Homo sapiens. Both of us are part of the human family.
There are millions of variations in the fossil record. There are small dinosaurs and there are big dinosaurs. Some have big feet, big skulls, and big bones. There are small dogs and big dogs, big and small horses, and big and small cats. There are bones of birds that had large heads and large claws. There is no argument there. But that’s not evidence of Darwinian evolution, just as there is no evolutionary change between Gilbert and myself. We are simply differing forms of the same species. Evolution’s believers are still looking for species-to-species transitional forms in the fossil record. There is nothing in the bone record that is empirical evidence of one species transitioning into another species. There are the old bones of a bird that scientists theorize could have been a dinosaur, simply because it has large claws (Archaeopteryx). Some modern birds also have claws on their wings, and yet no one claims they are missing links. But they are just "theorizing." They are merely imagining. Like John Lennon. It’s easy if you try. Evolutionary "scientists" are good at imagining. They do it with fish, birds, lizards, and of course, humans. They even draw little pictures to make them look real, like the talented Disney imagineers. But it’s not reality. In reality, the missing links are still missing.

Will Smith gives big money
.jpg)
"I have a question. When actor Will Smith gave you that $200K donation, did you have any qualms about accepting it? … Are you comfortable accepting money from a person who would misrepresent your faith so blatantly? Or do you implicitly agree that Christianity is basically the same as Scientology, Buddhism, Hinduism? Or is it just about the filthy lucre? Is that why you've switched to this site? Getting a percentage from the clickthroughs are we? Great way to spit in the faces of your supporters. Great way to show your true colors. Snakeskin looks good on you Ray...Lest anyone think I am unfairly maligning you, here's a link to the article: www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,468644,00.html ~ alphgeek
Alphgeek . . . . It was a different "Living Waters." We are a ministry. That was his home church: "But Smith, who was raised Baptist and says he remains Christian (he co-founded the non-denominational Christian church Living Waters in San Fernando Valley) . . ." [1]
He did say, "Ninety-eight percent of the principles [in Scientology] are identical to the principles of the Bible . . . My beliefs are that individuals have to create relationships with God. You can't listen to what the preacher says--you have to read the Bible yourself and make your interpretation. I'm good friends with Tom Cruise and I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious." [2]
I'm sure that there are ideas, not only in Scientology, but in many religions that are good. But good ideas are not the issue when it comes to God. If you want success in this life, find a good motivational speaker. They are full of great ideas. But if you want everlasting life, that's a completely different issue, and that's where Christianity is unique. Almost all religions are what are called "works righteousness" religions. By that I mean they maintain that you have to do something to merit salvation (eternal life). However, Christianity says that we can't do that because we are criminals in God's eyes, who have seriously violated His Law. That means that anything we try and do to please God (fasting, praying, etc.) are not seen by Him as good works, but as detestable attempts to bribe the Judge of the Universe. The only thing that can save any of us from the terrible consequences of violating His Law, is His love and mercy. God Himself provided a Savior for the entire world--for Jews, Gentiles, Moslems, Hindus--"whosoever." All we need do is repent and trust the One who suffered and died for our sins and rose again on the third day. That's not just a good idea for this life. It's everlasting life for dying humanity.
By the way, my payments for writing this column are sent by Examiner.com directly to Children's Hunger Fund.

A Sincere "Thank-you" to Atheists
"Does Ray ever respond to the comments?" (Logician)

I have learned so much from the atheists on this blog. I truly thank God for every one of you, and for the fact that you sent that dumb banana video all over the world. It's given me a huge plateform. I'm eternally grateful. Thank you.

"Ray is Lying Through his Teeth."
"Ray's been repeatedly corrected about his empty claim that atheism says nothing made everything. Ray's been repeatedly challenged to find even a single atheist on this blog who has ever said that atheism states nothing made everything and couldn't find one--and he repeats the same lie again, and again, and again. He's even putting it on billboards now. Ray is lying through his teeth, and is showing downright contempt for the truth. Captain Howdy."

New Billboards Across the Country

Two things:
1. I want to thank Dan Barker (Freedom From Religion, Inc.) for this wonderful billboard idea.
2. If you can't read the text, it says: "Atheist: someone who believes that nothing made everything. A scientific impossibility!
Always remember: If you say, "I have no belief that my Ford truck had a maker," you think nothing made it. It just happened.

Money-Hungry Religion
Popular comedian George Carlin said, "But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good [expletive]story. [Expletive] [expletive]!"
Despite the fact that most people consider themselves to be morally "good" at heart, the Bible teaches that the heart of man is not good at all. Not in the slightest. It doesn’t even teach that he’s bad. Its moral prognosis is worse. The Scriptures say that all humanity is desperately wicked, to the core. There’s not just one bad apple in the barrel.
As Mr. Carlin noticed, this rotten corruption seeps into every area of society. Millions have got away with billions through fraudulent business practices. Many are not only guilty of financial corruption, but men like Stalin and Hitler have murdered millions throughout history using political power. And wicked mankind has also used religion for his own evil purposes. He has not only slaughtered in the name of God, but he’s lined his pockets throughout history, and he has done it in more modern times through the medium of television.
Look at how specific the Bible is when it speaks of these money-hungry Bible teachers that will deceive many with their slick words, and in so doing slur the name of Christianity:
"Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed" (2 Peter 2:2-3)
As the Bible says in this verse, there’s good news for George Carlin and others like him who are deeply offended by hypocrisy in religion. All those who have committed any immoral practices (including religious hypocrisy) will end up getting exactly what they deserve. They will be damned in Hell by the justice of Almighty God. No one will get away with a thing. No one.

Atheist University
I was introduced on a radio interview recently as being "internationally hated by atheists."
To what do I attribute this great honor? Obviously, to my dumb banana video. It spread my name like soft and tasteless butter all over the world. And so I have this unique and wonderful blog that is frequented by atheists. I never thought that I would some day thank God for that stupid video, but I do.
I want to expand this blog, and I need your help. Can you to do what you do, but on video? Film yourself giving a question/objection.
This is from the blog:
"Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Hmm, how could we have other gods if no other gods exist? According to this logic other gods DO exist! We're just not allowed to worship them!. Guess what the Bible saying that there are other gods!" Richard List
All Richard needs to do is to say:
"You have my permission to use this video. My name is Richard List. I’m an atheist. Here’s my question/objection:
‘Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Hmm, how could we have other gods if no other gods exist? According to this logic other gods DO exist! We're just not allowed to worship them!. Guess what the Bible saying that there are other gods!"
We will answer you on video, using cools graphics, bells and whistles. You don’t have to give your name, but make sure you give us permission to use your clip. Also make sure you have good lighting (keep the shadows off your face), and make sure you have good sound. Keep it short and to the point. Same rules as the blog. Thanks.
Upload your clip to: newsltr@livingwaters.com
Addressing Your Concerns:
"Still though I might get involved in this for a laugh but you'd have to add a promise to play each video question in full and not in small edited segments . . . " Tomby Stone
"Nowhere did you mention the right to respond or that you'd give a forum to such a response. Nope. Not gonna fall for it." Dean
We will not edit your questions or objections (if you want them to be used, keep them to less than 30 seconds), and provision will definitely be made for on-going comments. Why would I want to hinder the healthy discussion of thought? If I didn't believe in it, I wouldn't allow comments on this blog.
Animation is fine. Use your imagination. Take up to 60 seconds.
