In September of 2007, we filmed a program for our TV show called “What Scares You?” The opening scene was a cowboy shootout between Kirk and myself. I was so excited by the quality of production that I immediately wrote a script for a full length period-piece Western. Too many Christian films have a soft message or allegories that are hidden from the unsaved. This one weaves the biblical gospel into a very exciting plot, in a way that has never been done before. Please pray for provision for this, as we seek Christian investors.

Get Him!
I am going through all 63 tapes of European footage for the Fourth Season. My job is to log what works and what doesn’t, before it goes to the editor. It is laborious but at the same time there’s some exciting video. I was open air preaching in the early hours of the morning in Brussels to a booze-drinking crowd when, someone called out that I should be more tolerant (I had said that Jesus was the only way to God). A few minutes later things got slightly tense between myself and another heckler. Suddenly, Mr. Tolerant called to the crowd “Get him! Get him!” That stirred them into a frenzied lynch-mob. Fortunately for me, the heckler I was speaking to screamed “Stop it! Stop this!” and the crowd backed off. Please pray for me as I do the logging.

Never Hesitate

Sadly, we had to have our dog put down recently. As Sue and I were leaving the veterinarian, we noticed that a mother and her grown daughter were sobbing deeply, because they had just put their dog down. Suddenly I had a big dilemma. Sue was in tears, they were in tears--do I or don’t I offer these grieving people a Million Dollar Bill tract? How could I? How insensitive! I decided to do it despite my fears. I opened the door for them and said, “We just lost our dog too. Here’s something to cheer you up. It’s a million dollars.” I was amazed to see that both women immediately burst into laughter. I quickly added, “You will probably need it to pay the vet bill.” They laughed again. They were still smiling as they walked down the sidewalk. Perhaps we should do hospital drops. If we ever get another dog, I think I will call it “Stay.” It would be interesting to see what he will do when I call “Come here Stay!”

The Problem With Atheists
“Is there a God?” the atheist was asked. “I think not,” he smugly replied.
“That’s your problem,” said the Christian. “ . . . that’s your problem.”

How to Dissipate Pulpit Fears
One major fear most have of standing in a pulpit is somehow messing up and looking foolish in front of a crowd of people. I have used a strategy for years that can help with such fears. If something goes wrong, I simply say, “Turn to Exodus 20:11, put your finger in there and then turn over to 1 Timothy 1:9.” That gives me at least 30 seconds to pull my thoughts together or to find my place in my notes. Then I say, “I have no idea what those verses are. I just wanted to give you something to do while I found my place in my notes.” That makes people laugh and at the same time relieves any tension in the air. Just knowing that you have that option can help you conquer your fears.

You Can Do It
It was a freezing day by Southern California standards, and the area where we normally preached was like a desert, so I decided to give out some Giant Money tracts and perhaps do some one-to-one witnessing. I was reminded of how easy it is to give out those giant $100 bills. People loved them, and a number came up and actually asked for them. When people walked off holding them they are so big (the tract that is) they acted as an advertisement for the tract, and others then want them. I then saw six teenagers sitting on the ground. They loved the tracts, so I asked, “Do you like magic?” They did. So I turned two one-dollar bills into a five-dollar bill. They loved that more than they loved the tracts, so I asked what they thought happened when someone dies. That opened the doors to a wonderful time of sharing the gospel. Perhaps you are thinking that you could never do magic. Yes you can. It’s easy, after a little practice, and the advantages are enormous for breaking the ice with strangers. You can learn how to turn two ones into a five by going to http://www.livingwaters.com/m_equip.shtml Scroll down to “Create your own money trick.”

The Power of Humor

Someone wrote to me recently and asked how they could best present the subject of biblical evangelism to a group at their church. I said that one of most effective ways to hold the attention of your hearers, is to use a little humor here and there. It’s kind of like a flash of lightning during a dark night. It wakes people up and they tend to wait for the next one. I told him that if he wasn’t the humorous type, to read a couple of one-liners from out “The World’s Best One-liners” tract. He did, and said that it went over very well.

What Would You Do?

Here’s three thought-provoking questions you may like to ask when witnessing. I have used these on The Way of the Master radio and for the Third Season of our television program, and they illicit interesting answers:
1. It’s 1938. You have been taken back in time. You have Adolph Hitler in the sights of a high-powered rifle. He was responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews, Gypsies, blacks and homosexuals. Over 60 million people died because of the war that he started. One squeeze of the trigger and you take him out, and save all those lives. Do you pull the trigger? Most, without hesitation, say they would. Okay. It’s 40 years earlier. You have Adolph Hitler’s mother in your sights. She’s pregnant with Adolph. Do you take her out? Most say they wouldn’t. Then you ask why? Does God have anything to do with the answer?
2. A massive asteroid is going to hit the earth and destroy it in one hour. What would you do for those 60 minutes? ?
3. You are to be banished to an island by yourself. You are allowed one book. What would it be? Would you consider the Bible? Why? Why not?
